Daytona Love part 3 ... FAP

Not only a rare Daytona 6265 Fuerza Aerea Del Peru (FAP). But also the most beautiful Daytona i have ever seen. With fantastic brown faded subdials and in fantastic condition.

And as it is a Military Daytona, it's really rare and a true grail-watch.

The Rolex Fuerza Aerea Del Peru Cosmographs were produced with model references from 6238 to 6263/5 by Rolex for the Peruvian Air force in limited numbers (circa 700-800) between early 1960 and the mid 1980s, (the case numbers range from 1 to 6 million).

The history of Peruvian Air force can be found at

http://www.scramble.nl/pe.htm

The colaboration between Rolex and the FAP is believed to have been due to the close friendship between the official Rolex dealer of Lima, and the late Heineger, Head of Rolex South America (& father of Patrick Heineger General Director of Rolex SA).

The Fuerza Aerea Del Peru Issued watches have also been noted on non daytonas, such as model ref 1680/1675 and even steel datejusts.

The Fuerza Aerea Del Peru Cosmographs are often found with the following characteristics

- Dials from  6239 to 6263/5 usually without the word daytona

-Outer caseback engraved with Fuerza Aerea Del Peru (engraved by Rolex, who have a record of the issue numbers) and very lightly engraved delivery numbers (often erased via polishing as with the early Comex 5513/4)

Inner case backs with specific serial engravings

Jacques Cousteau wearing Rolex

A great report on Jake's blog about Jacques Cousteau and his family.

A strap makes so much difference...

A strap can make so much difference! The Panerai 1950 Fiddy is already one great watch. A icon... and one of the best re-issues in the market.
But when you put it on a 'Mission Impossible' strap.... it gets real vintage. For me this is the best strap/watch combination. Maybe only matched by a real vintage one.

Daytona Love part 2.

Another one of my all time favourites is the BIG RED Daytona 6263. If you ever go for one... please choose one in a condition like this.
The BIG RED is magical. Daytona at a distance from the subdial. Perfect dial and markers. This is how we like them. Tropic #21 and vintage heaven here we come. I guess this is one of the biggest style-icons of the last century. The Sigma dial in part 1. is from the early 70th.... this Big red from the 80th. If they would only design watches like this.

Daytona Love part 1.

One of my favourite watches is the vintage Daytona... the 6239, 6241, 6240, 6263,..... silver dial,.. black dial... they are all so cool.
But one of the nicest configurations to me is the early silver writing black 6263 with Sigma dial.

I love the understatement and the details! Silver printing.. real different from white on the wrist, low position of the Rolex typography (see the serif font), pearly subdials, OT SWISS TO . Also real cool on a black nato strap! Style and pure sex on the wrist!

Double Dutch

1665 2nd series Comex, 600 dial and 5513 matte logo dial, medium numbers

One of my favorites

A real cool blog about style and often you see the people wearing Rolex. Love it!

A real nice vintage movie from HYDRA VI.... with courtesy from physalie.

The coolness of the Master

Well.... one can never achieve the coolness if this great master of style.... but hell one can try. At least imagine so..LOOOL!
But when you wear a Newman.... this is the strap which makes it all perfect.
And in all the hype of bigger watches, the pump-pusher Daytona sometimes feels small. Not on this strap.

Rolex Submariner history movie

Movie with a nice historical overview and the watches to dream about.
