Well almost auction season. Geneva auctions coming up. With some great looking pieces. I wish i would be there. But can't make it i am afraid. The auctions are always great fun. And good party ;-)
But another one is coming up also. Bonhams at 15th of December. And a 5512 3-6-9 Sub will be there.
Here is some information from the auction....
Rolex. A very rare stainless steel automatic centre seconds bracelet watch with rare 3-6-9 Explorer type dial with small minute markers and pointed crown guards
Ref:5512, Made in January 1962
26-jewel Cal.1530 automatic movement, black gloss dial with baton hour markers and Arabic 3, 6, 9 at the quarters, small minute markers, gilt dial printing and designation "Rolex Oyster Perpetual 200m=660ft Submariner" calibrated later bezel insert, polished case with pointed crown guards, screw down Oyster crown and screw back stamped 5512 I 62, Nato style strap, case, dial and movement signed
40mm.
£30,000-40,000
The present Submariner is a particularly rare version of the reference 5512 model. The Explorer dial Submariners were believed to be produced in very small numbers during the late 1950's early 1960's. Rolex literature from this period shows this dial variation but exact production numbers are not known. (a similar example was sold in these rooms on the 2nd December 2009, lot 233)
The rarity of this present watch is further enhanced by the very small minute markers; and it is believed to be one of only a couple known to collectors world wide with this dial type.
This watch was purchased in London in 1966 by the current owner.
I wish you guy's a happy hunting season!
