I love the sun
Not only for great fun times outside. But i also love the sun for making this Speedmaster go POP! I have owned a couple of nice Speedmasters in the past. Also tropical ones. But this one is the nicest yet. The dial is so fantastic! Just amazing... and the inlay fits so nice. The bracelet is a rare old expansion version! Great style and nice to wear something different then Rolex from day to day. So let's have a indian summer full of sun!

Tropical delight. Ohh men i love tropical. And those brown Daytona's are high, high on my wishlist. A full brown Daytona or camel colour as the right one. Would be my next grail.
But there where more fantastic brown dial watches at Passion this year.
Back from the Spa
It's back. And all i hoped for. I love this watch. But the case condition (also unpolished) always gave me a bit of down. I love those classical lugs. And wanted the case to be freshed up.

I got lucky this week. A fantastic 1675 tropical dial GMT. A 1967 watch with the typical shape of the crown-guards. The case has seen some polish but still very nice. But the dial is such a nice brown. Changing colour from deep dark brown to a real great warm chocolate. Changing the angle is magical.

Found the one i was looking for. A all gloss 5512 tropical dial. The case has seen life. But seems to be unpolished. The pointed crown-guards are still real sharp and edgy!

It's winter, it's dark and cold... we just need the sun and the warm feeling. Maybe these tropical dials will help.

We see it in fifferent time-frames. But a lot on the DRSD Mk2 and 1680 red mtr's first dial. Seems to be a end of 60th thing.
My explanation is, that for printing deep black, you use a mixture of different colours to get deep black. Otherwise it will look grey-ish. I think they used a mixture with more brown/warmth on the end of the 60th... and by fading out other colours through UV... the brown get's dominant in the dial.
But i have also seen greenish kind of giltdials and the most beautuful Tropical i have seen. The camel-gilt Sub above!
Daytona Love part 4
Another fantastic example.. one of the nicest i had on my wrist. Again a sigma dial and 4.X serial. Perfect dial with dark chocolate subdials.
Daytona Love part 3 ... FAP
Not only a rare Daytona 6265 Fuerza Aerea Del Peru (FAP). But also the most beautiful Daytona i have ever seen. With fantastic brown faded subdials and in fantastic condition.
And as it is a Military Daytona, it's really rare and a true grail-watch.
The Rolex Fuerza Aerea Del Peru Cosmographs were produced with model references from 6238 to 6263/5 by Rolex for the Peruvian Air force in limited numbers (circa 700-800) between early 1960 and the mid 1980s, (the case numbers range from 1 to 6 million).

The colaboration between Rolex and the FAP is believed to have been due to the close friendship between the official Rolex dealer of Lima, and the late Heineger, Head of Rolex South America (& father of Patrick Heineger General Director of Rolex SA).
The Fuerza Aerea Del Peru Issued watches have also been noted on non daytonas, such as model ref 1680/1675 and even steel datejusts.
The Fuerza Aerea Del Peru Cosmographs are often found with the following characteristics
- Dials from 6239 to 6263/5 usually without the word daytona
-Outer caseback engraved with Fuerza Aerea Del Peru (engraved by Rolex, who have a record of the issue numbers) and very lightly engraved delivery numbers (often erased via polishing as with the early Comex 5513/4)
Inner case backs with specific serial engravings
